What is the diamond clarity level

Diamond clarity is the visual cleanliness of the diamond, one of the diamond 4C standards, diamond clarity according to the GIA diamond clarity level can be divided into flawless grade, internal flawless grade, very slight concealer grade, slight concealer grade, small flaw grade 11 grades, the higher the clarity level, the higher the price of the diamond.

What is the diamond clarity level

Clarity refers to the relative degree to which the clarity features of a diamond can be observed from scratch by a trained diamond grader with an achromatic, tenfold magnifying glass of equal optical path under an artificial standard light source of D55 or D65 with normal vision. Below are the different clarity levels.

FL: Flawless grade - When you look at a diamond under a 10x magnifying glass, you can see that there are no inclusions on the inside of the diamond and no defects on the outside.

IF: Internal flawless grade - when observed by professionals at 10x magnification, there is no internal flaw, but there is a very small flaw on the surface of the diamond.

VVS1: Very Slight Grade 1 - only a single, very small flaw is observed by a professional at 10X magnification.

VVS2: Extremely Minor Grade 2 - Individual extremely minor imperfections are observed by professionals at 10X magnification.

VS1: Slight grade 1 - a single minor flaw is visible at 10X magnification.

VS2: Minor flaw level 2 - several minor defects are visible at 10X magnification.

SI1: Minor defects Level 1 - Obvious defects are easily observed at 10X magnification.

SI2: Minor defects Level 2 - Several obvious defects can be easily observed at 10X magnification.

L (1, 2, 3) : Inclusion grade - the flaw is very obvious under a 10x magnifying glass, can be seen with the naked eye, and affects the diamond's firmness or clarity and shine.

Second, diamond color grading

The color of the diamond is the natural color of the diamond itself, which can be divided into two series, one is the common colorless class, the color from colorless, nearly colorless to yellowish light yellow; The other is the color diamond series, the color is red diamond, blue diamond, pink diamond black diamond and so on.

Usually the diamond color grading is mainly for colorless diamonds to be divided, mainly follow the GIA color grading table, grade from D (colorless transparent) to Z (yellow), color diamonds because of its high rarity, expensive, is not applicable to this color grading system.

GIA Color Classification:

Grade D: Completely colorless. The diamond is the highest grade in color, perfectly colorless and relatively rare.

Grade E: Colorless. Small amounts of color in diamonds can only be detected by gemstone experts and are relatively rare.

Grade F: Colorless. A small amount of color can only be detected by jewelry experts, and is still considered colorless grade, belonging to the high quality diamond.

Grade G-H: nearly colorless. Compared to higher colored diamonds, they have a slight yellow color and still have a high value.

Grade I-J: nearly colorless. Slight color can be detected. The value is higher.

K-m grade: the color is darker, visible to the naked eye, the diamond is dim and not bright, the color grade is low, the visual effect is poor, the market rarely provides this color grade diamonds, and it is not recommended to buy.

N-z grade: dark color, poor fire color, not recommended.

Three, diamond cutting grading

Diamond cutting points are five grades, the ideal cut is the highest quality diamond, can reach first-class standards, almost reflect all the light into the diamond, is extremely perfect cut; Very good cuts reflect the same light as standard grades; A well-cut diamond reflects most of the light entering the diamond, but is much cheaper than a very good cut; Although the general cutting is a high-quality diamond, the reflected light is far less than the good cutting; Bad cuts are all those diamonds that do not meet the cutting standards, and the brilliance of the diamond does not show.

Diamond cutting grade introduction

EXCELLENT: represents a standard achieved by only 3% of first class high quality diamonds. This cut causes the diamond to reflect almost all the light that enters the diamond. It's an elegant and brilliant cut.

VERY GOOD cut: represents about 15% of all diamond cuts. It will make the diamond reflect the light of the standard cut.

GOOD cut: Represents about 25% of all diamond cuts. It reflects most of the light entering the diamond. Much cheaper than VG class.

General cut (FAIR) : representing a diamond cut with a roughness of 35%, it is still a high-quality diamond, but the light reflected by the diamond processed by the general cut is not as good as that of the G-grade cut.

POOR cut: This includes all diamonds that do not meet normal cut standards. The cut of these diamonds is either deep and narrow or shallow and wide, which tends to allow light to escape from the sides or bottom, thus causing the diamond to lose its luster.
