A voidable marriage is a marriage in which one party is coerced into marriage. The legal circumstances under which a marriage can be annulled are due to coercion, and the coerced party may petition the marriage registration authority or the people's court for annulment of the marriage.

According to Article 11 of China's Marriage Law, where a marriage is coerced, the coerced party may request the marriage registration authority or the people's court to cancel the marriage. The coerced party's request for annulment of marriage shall be filed within one year from the date of marriage registration. If the party whose personal freedom has been illegally restricted requests for annulment of marriage, the request shall be made within one year from the date of restoration of personal freedom.
If the marriage is revoked more than one year after obtaining the license, the marriage can only be dissolved in accordance with the divorce procedure.
An annulled marriage shall be null and void from the beginning. The provisions on suspension, interruption or extension of the limitation of action shall not apply during this period.
