Diamond cutting does not necessarily require 3ex. 3ex refers to the highest level of diamond cutting ratio, polishing, and symmetry. Due to the best quality of 3ex diamonds, it is generally recommended to choose the 3ex cut as the first choice. However, because its price is relatively expensive, if the budget is not enough, other grades can also be chosen, such as 3VG, which is almost indistinguishable to the naked eye. Alternatively, according to personal economic situation, three cutting grades can be arbitrarily matched, such as EX2VG, VG2EX, etc.
The meaning of diamond cutting 3EX
The cutting, polishing, and symmetry of diamonds are divided into five levels, from high to low: ex (Excellent ideal cutting), vg (Very good), g (Good good), f (Fair average), and p (Poor poor).
1. EX ratio
Diamonds with standard cutting ratios undergo precise calculations at every angle, resulting in perfect refraction of light entering the diamond and presenting a dazzling and charming fiery effect.
2. EX polishing
Polishing demonstrates the smoothness of the diamond surface. Diamonds with low flatness can affect the direction of light reflection and refraction on the surface of the diamond, thereby affecting the color of the diamond.
3. EX symmetry
Symmetry reflects whether there are any offset or tilt issues in the arrangement of various facets of a diamond. If the symmetry of a diamond is low, it will cause a shift in the reflected and refracted light of the diamond, thereby affecting the fire effect of the diamond.
How to choose a diamond cutter
1. Try to choose a 3EX cut, with a minimum of VG or higher. Lowering the color and clarity level appropriately will not have any impact on the diamond.
2. The cutting ratio is the most important among the three cutting factors, and it cannot be too large or too small, otherwise the diamond's luster and brightness will be greatly reduced.
