What is platinum made of

HOME > Knowledge

Pure platinum is a shiny, malleable silvery-white metal. Its ductility is the highest of all pure metals, better than gold, silver and copper, but its malleability is lower than that of gold. Platinum is highly resistant to corrosion, very stable at high temperatures, and has very stable electrical properties. It does not oxidize at any temperature, but can be attacked by various halogens, cyanide, sulfur, and caustic alkali. Platinum is insoluble in hydrochloric and nitric acids, but dissolves in hot aqua regia to form chloroplatinic acid (H2PtCl6).

Platinum's exceptional toughness and malleability allow it to carve fine lines, and the top jewelry brands are familiar with these qualities, resulting in countless amazing processes.
