How to choose diamond clarity

HOME > Knowledge

The selection of diamond clarity should first be based on one's budget. The higher the diamond clarity level, the more expensive the price. Secondly, clarify the purpose of the diamond, whether it is for collection or wearing. Finally, choose your favorite diamond clarity based on meeting your first two needs.

1、 How to choose diamond clarity

1. Select based on budget

After understanding the relationship between diamond 4C grade and price, we will find a pattern: the higher the diamond grade, the more expensive the diamond price. In the case of other parameters being the same, the higher the clarity level of diamonds, the more expensive the price naturally becomes, and the price ranking is FL>IF>VVS1>VVS2>VS1>VS2>SI1>SI2>I1>I2>I3.

And the IF diamond clarity level indicates that when observed under a 10x magnifying glass, the diamond has no inclusions or surface features. This diamond clarity level is very high, so its diamond value is also extremely high. It is almost impossible to buy diamonds of this clarity level on the market.

The prices of other adjacent clarity levels of diamonds may also differ by several hundred to tens of thousands, so we must choose the corresponding clarity level based on our own budget.

2. Choose according to the purpose

Diamonds are not only suitable for everyday wear, but also a commodity with the potential for appreciation. If the consumer's purchase purpose is to customize it into a diamond accessory, then the requirement for diamond clarity does not need to be too high, and generally SI level is preferred.

If it is used for collecting appreciated diamonds, then the requirement for clarity level is higher, at least VVS2 level.

3. Choose according to preference

Some consumers prefer particularly pure things, so when choosing diamond clarity, VVS level is the main choice; Some consumers also believe that diamonds with no visible flaws on the surface are acceptable, so it is recommended to consider SI grade diamonds.

2、 What is diamond clarity

Diamond clarity refers to the visual cleanliness of a diamond and is one of the 4C standards for diamonds. The defects that affect its level are divided into two categories, and internal defects are called inclusions. Surface defects are called surface imperfections. The criteria for evaluating the clarity of diamonds include the impact of the number, size, type, location, and visibility of the aforementioned flaws on the overall appearance of diamonds. The rating of diamond clarity must be examined under a ten fold magnifying glass.
