The national legal age for marriage is 22 years for males and 20 years for females. According to Article 1047 of the Civil Code of the People's Republic of China, the age of marriage shall not be earlier than 22 years for males and 20 years for females.
Legal provisions related to marriage certificates
1. Article 1049 of the Civil Code: Both men and women who are required to get married shall personally apply for marriage registration at the marriage registration office. Those who comply with the provisions of this law shall be registered and issued a marriage certificate. Completing marriage registration establishes the marital relationship. Those who have not registered their marriage should apply for registration again.
2. Article 1051 of the Civil Code: If any of the following circumstances occur, the marriage is invalid:
（1） Bigamy;
（2） Family relationships that prohibit marriage;
（3） Not yet of legal marriage age.
