Previously, China's Marriage Law required mandatory premarital medical examinations. After the implementation of the new Marriage Registration Regulations, China has promoted voluntary premarital medical examinations and abolished mandatory ones. Before marriage, a premarital medical examination must be conducted, and the premarital medical examination report has become one of the necessary materials for obtaining a marriage certificate.
In 2003, China promulgated the new Marriage Registration Regulations, which abolished the mandatory premarital medical examination and changed the term "mandatory premarital medical examination" to "voluntary premarital medical examination".
