The legal age for marriage for women is twenty years old. Article 1047 of the Civil Code of the People's Republic of China stipulates that the age of marriage shall not be earlier than 22 years for males and 20 years for females.
Scope of application of the legal age for marriage
The age of marriage stipulated by law has universal applicability, but in certain special circumstances, the law also allows exceptions to be made to the age of marriage.
In some ethnic autonomous regions of our country, legislative bodies have also made flexible provisions regarding the legal age of marriage. For example, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Xizang and other autonomous regions, as well as some autonomous prefectures and autonomous counties, all take the age of 20 for men and 18 for women as the minimum age for marriage in this region. But these flexible regulations only apply to ethnic minorities and do not apply to the Han people living in the region.
