Marriage between close relatives violates the policy of eugenics and child rearing. Compared with non consanguineous marriages, consanguineous marriages have a higher probability of producing sick offspring due to genetic mutations in their offspring. Therefore, China's Marriage Law explicitly prohibits consanguineous marriages.
1. Marriage between close relatives violates the policy of eugenics and child rearing
This is because people who marry close relatives obtain the same genes from their common blood relatives, which can easily lead to the encounter of hidden harmful genes that are detrimental to survival in their offspring, resulting in the birth of children with congenital developmental disabilities or even malformed infants.
The offspring of consanguineous marriage are more prone to genetic mutations and have a higher probability of giving birth to malformed children. People who are not closely related in marriage, due to the lack of common blood relatives, have fewer offspring who acquire recessive pathogenic genes that are detrimental to survival, and their chances of developing genetic diseases are also lower.
2. China's Marriage Law explicitly prohibits consanguineous marriage
Marriage between close relatives is not protected by law. The Marriage Law of our country clearly stipulates that direct and collateral blood relatives within three generations are prohibited from getting married. The purpose of prohibiting consanguineous marriage is to improve the quality of the birth population and ensure the health of future generations. Marriage between close relatives also violates the principles of human ethics.
