Relevant materials need to be prepared in advance: the Chinese should prepare identity cards, household registration books, marriage photos, certificates of no spouse and signed certificates of no kinship within three generations with the other party. Foreigners should prepare passports or other valid international travel documents, foreigners' residence permits and no spouse certificates. After the materials are ready, go to the place where the Chinese people have registered their marriage.
Procedures for marriage registration with foreigners
Marrying a foreigner is an international marriage, which requires both parties to go to the marriage registration office in the place where the Chinese citizen's residence is located to register their marriage. There is no difference between the procedure of marriage registration and that of ordinary marriage registration, which is divided into three steps: application, review and registration.
1. Apply
Both parties need to bring materials to the foreign-related marriage registration authority designated by the government of the province, autonomous region, or municipality where their Chinese household registration is located when registering their marriage.
2. Review
After filling in without errors, the foreign-related marriage registration office will conduct a review. If the relevant documents of foreign citizens are in English, they need to be translated in advance by a unit allowed by the Civil Affairs Bureau, translated into Chinese, and stamped with a valid seal before being submitted to the Civil Affairs Bureau for review.
3. Registration
After reviewing the documents and statements submitted by both parties, the marriage registration authority approves the registration.
