Qixi is China's Valentine's Day. Because Qixi is endowed with the beautiful love legend of "Cowherd and Weaver Girl", it has become a festival symbolizing love, and thus is considered to be the most romantic traditional festival in China. In modern times, it has the cultural meaning of "Chinese Valentine's Day".

The Origin of Qixi Festival

The ancients discovered that there were two stars in the sky that were separated by the Milky Way and were very bright. In connection with the division of labor between men and women at that time, they were respectively called the Cowherd Star and the Weaver Girl Star. According to legend, on the seventh day of July every year, Niulang and Zhinu meet at the magpie bridge in the sky, and celebrate the festival at night, so this day is called Qixi Festival. Girls compete in needlework on this day in order to have the cleverness and dexterity of the Weaver Girl, so this festival is also called Qiqiao Festival. In modern times, due to its romantic stories and legends, it is also regarded by many as China's Valentine's Day.
