Scientific research shows that everyone carries 5-6 different recessive pathogenic genes. In the case of random marriage, the opportunity for both spouses to carry the same disease causing gene is rare.
However, in the case of consanguineous marriage, the probability of inheriting the same disease causing gene from a common ancestor increases significantly, as both parties are likely carriers of the same disease causing gene. If this gene is inherited in an autosomal recessive manner, its offspring may develop the disease due to being homozygous for the mutation. So the risk of illness in children born from consanguineous marriages is greatly increased, often several times, tens of times, or even hundreds of times higher than in non consanguineous marriages.
Children born to consanguineous marriage are prone to problems
1. Congenital intellectual disability.
2. Congenital heart disease.
3. Congenital idiocy.
4. Mediterranean anemia.
5. Phenylketonuria.
6. High blood pressure.
7. Albinism.
8. Schizophrenia.
9. Congenital heart disease.
10. Epilepsy.
