What does diamond ring clarity mean

HOME > Knowledge

Diamond ring clarity refers to the clarity of the diamond on the ring, which is the visual cleanliness of the diamond and is one of the 4C standards for diamonds. According to the amount of inclusions and flaws in the diamond, it is divided into FL (flawless), IF (internally flawless), vvs (very minor flaws), vs (minor flaws), SI (minor flaws), and I (heavy flaws). The higher the clarity of a diamond, the better its quality and the higher its price.

What do the clarity levels of diamond rings mean

1. FL flawless level refers to the cleanliness of a diamond observed under a 10x gemstone magnifying glass, where there are no inclusions inside or outside the gemstone.

2. IF flawless level (internal flawless) refers to the absence of any flaws inside the diamond observed under a 10x gemstone magnifying glass, but there may be a slight flaw on the surface that can be removed by re polishing.

3. VVS Ultra Minor Defect Level refers to the presence of tiny flaws on the surface or crown of a diamond when observed under a 10x gemstone magnifying glass. The difference between VVS1 and VVS2 is that the latter has extremely small cotton like dots and small stubble.

4. VS Minor Flaws refers to very small flaws visible in diamonds under a 10x gemstone magnifying glass. The difference between VS1 and VS2 is that the latter may have tiny cotton like dots or small stubble.

5. SI small flaw level refers to the ability to easily see flaws in diamonds under a 10x gemstone magnifying glass. The difference between SI1 and SI2 is that the former may have visible defects upon careful observation with the naked eye, while the latter is more likely to have visible defects with the naked eye.

5. I1, I2, and I3 heavy flaw levels refer to small flaws that are easily visible to the naked eye when observing diamonds under a 10x gemstone magnifying glass, with some showing obvious cleavage and cracks.
