How to choose a diamond ring cutter

HOME > Knowledge

The preferred choice for diamond ring cutting is 3EX grade. 3EX cutting refers to diamond cutting where the cutting ratio, trimming, and polishing have all reached the ideal level. Generally, if diamonds are used for collection purposes, 3EX grade is better. If cost-effectiveness is pursued, 3EX, EX2VG, and 3VG grade diamond rings can be selected according to one's own budget.

Diamond ring cutting level

The international standard GIA divides diamond cutting grades more strictly into five levels: Excellent、Very Good、Good、Fair、Poor。

1. Ideal Cut (Excellent)

This type of cut belongs to top-level cuts, and diamonds with such cuts are naturally very precious. Usually, only top-quality diamonds can meet this standard. It can almost perfectly reflect all the light entering the diamond, making the diamond extremely brilliant. Diamonds with this type of cut account for only 3%.

2. Very Good Cut

This type of cut is probably slightly inferior to the ideal cut, and the price may be slightly lower, but it is also a very good type of cut. It can reflect the light of a standard grade cut on the diamond, showcasing the perfect brilliance of the diamond. This type of cut only accounts for 15% of diamonds.

3. Good Cut

This type of cut is much cheaper compared to VG grade cuts, as it can reflect most of the light entering the interior of the diamond well, accounting for about 25%.

4. General Cutting (Fair)

In the category of diamond cutting, diamonds with this type of cutting still belong to qualified diamond cutting, but the reflected light is significantly lower than that of G-grade cutting, accounting for about 35%.

5. Poor Cutting

It is not recommended to choose diamonds with this type of cut when selecting a single diamond. It refers to all diamonds that do not meet the general cutting standards. Diamonds with this type of cut usually cannot reflect the internal light of the diamond well, with varying depths, narrowness, shallowness, and width, which easily allows light to escape from the edges or bottom, naturally highlighting the diamond's fiery color.
