Diamonds are mainly cut by two methods: sawing discs with diamond powder attached to the edges and laser cutting. The edge of the saw disc used for sawing separation is coated with diamond powder, achieving a higher hardness than the diamond to be sawed for cutting. Modern laser cutting generates a large amount of heat and requires continuous cooling with water. The advantage of laser cutting is that the cutting surface is extremely smooth and consumes very little energy.
Types of diamond cuts
Different cutting methods will result in diamonds of different shapes. Currently, there are several common types of cutting on the market.
1. Circular cutting
Circular is the most classic and popular diamond shape. Circular cutting is known as the most dazzling and fiery cutting method, and compared to other opposite sex diamonds, it can radiate more brilliance.
2. Olive shaped cutting
This type of cut diamond is also known as a horse eye diamond, and the original stone retention rate is relatively low. It is overall thin and narrow, with sharp ends, just like the shape of an olive. Its characteristic lies in the sharp corners at both ends, with extremely high glossiness.
3. Emerald cut
The emerald cut is a typical stepped cut. All facets are parallel or perpendicular to the square outer circumference of the diamond. This type of diamond has a rectangular shape, with a flattened crown and crown, and a linear shape at the base.
4. Pear shaped cutting
Pear shaped diamonds, also known as teardrop shaped diamonds, have an overall shape resembling a falling water droplet, with a pointed head and a plump lower body. Pear shaped diamond rings are full of classical charm and can make fingers look slender.
5. Cushion cut
The cushion type cutter has 58 cutting surfaces and is the predecessor of the current bright type cutter. It is named after its resemblance to a cushion. The overall shape of the cushion diamond is square, but the four corners are cut into circular shapes, which looks softer than the princess square diamond.
6. Elliptical cutting
Elliptical diamonds should be shoulder symmetrical during cutting to avoid the "bow tie effect". Diamonds with elliptical cuts are relatively narrow and larger than circular diamonds, which can visually elongate the shape of fingers and are very unique.
7. Princess square cut
The princess square diamond is cut in a bright pattern with sharp, uncut corners. Its engraved design is bright and colorful, presenting a clean, concise, and dazzling style.
8. Heart-shaped cut
The shape of a heart-shaped diamond is composed of two symmetrical wing petals, a central groove, and a pointed corner at the bottom, resembling a heart shape, full of love and romance, and can touch the hearts of young girls.
