According to international standards, diamond fluorescence is divided into 5 levels, from high to low: N level, F level, M level, S level, and VS level. Fluorescence will affect the brightness and transparency of diamonds, and diamonds with weaker fluorescence intensity have better quality.
No fluorescence: Diamonds do not react under ultraviolet radiation.
Faint weak fluorescence: Diamonds can see weak fluorescence under ultraviolet radiation, but cannot distinguish color.
Medium fluorescence, Strong strong fluorescence, Very Strong very strong fluorescence: Under ultraviolet irradiation, diamonds have obvious visible fluorescence and their colors can be distinguished.
How to observe diamond fluorescence
Diamond fluorescence is difficult to show under natural light and only emits colored light such as blue or yellow under strong ultraviolet radiation. If you want to see diamond fluorescence, you need to expose it to strong sunlight or use a UV lamp to illuminate it. Diamonds with high fluorescence levels will appear colored. In addition, you can also directly check the "Fluorescence" indicator on the diamond certificate. If it is marked as "None", it means there is no fluorescence.
Is diamond fluorescence important
Important. Diamond fluorescence refers to the colored light emitted by diamonds under strong ultraviolet radiation, such as blue and yellow light, which can to some extent affect the visual effect of diamonds. In addition, from a price perspective, diamonds with fluorescence are cheaper than diamonds without fluorescence, and the stronger the fluorescence, the lower the price. So diamond fluorescence is still very important.
