Walking marriage is a unique way of marriage for the Mosuo ethnic minority in Yunnan. It means a group of men and women dancing around a bonfire and singing one-on-one to strengthen their relationship. If the woman has a good impression of the man, she can send a signal of unrequited love to him through singing. If the man is also interested in the woman, he can go to her flower room, and the process can only be carried out secretly.
According to the custom of walking marriage, when the man enters the woman's flower room, he does not need to bring any gift money, only a pack of pine seeds and a hat. The reason why he brings the girl is to hang the hat on the door and tell others not to disturb them when they are on a date, and then the man has to leave before dawn.
There are two ways of Yunnan walking marriage, one is called "A-Zhu" settlement marriage; One type is called 'Axia' heterogamy. Regardless of the method of walking marriage, an ancient ceremony is required, usually held in the middle of the night, but there will be no banquet and no guests will be invited.
